Albrecht H. Weerts received the M.Sc. degree in hydrology and unsaturated zone physics from Wageningen University, Wageningen, The Netherlands, in 1995 and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in 2000. After receiving the Ph.D. degree, he spent two years with Unilever R&D, working on transport through complex media. In 2002, he joined Deltares, Delft, The Netherlands. He is an expert on data model integration and hydrology and has been leading research and development projects on ensemble forecasting and data assimilation techniques for improving flood and drought forecasting systems (quantification and reduction of uncertainties). His work has been published in leading scientific journals.
