I received my M.S. in Physics (1991) from the West University of Timisoara, Romania. I made the first steps in scientific research working in Germany (1992-1993), at Freie Universitat Berlin, as a research fellow of the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, DAAD). Back in Timisoara, I have been employed as a Teaching Assistant of Theoretical Physics (1993-1998) at the West University of Timisoara. In 1998, I occupied a Teaching Assistant position at the Victor Babes University of Medicine and Pharmacy Timisoara, at the Department of Biophysics and Medical Informatics. In 2002, I obtained my Ph.D. in Statistical Physics from the Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania. As a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Missouri-Columbia, MO, USA (2002-2003), I have been part of a multidisciplinary team that studied the self-assembly of multicellular systems. We applied methods of statistical physics to develop computer simulations for predicting the outcome of three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting of living tissue constructs. I continued to teach Biophysics in Timisoara as Associate Professor (2004-2006), and Professor (2006-present). My team is currently involved in experimental and theoretical research on 3D and 4D bioprinting. We also investigate physical methods of body composition assessment, with a particular interest in ultrasound techniques, air displacement plethysmography, and 3D body scanning.
