Adrian Midgley

I took up post as Reader in Sport and Exercise Physiology in the Department of Sport and Physical Activity on the 1st October 2012 and was promoted to Professor of Sports Science in August 2013. I was previously Lecturer in Sports Physiology in the Department of Sport, Health and Exercise Science at the University of Hull. I have a PhD in Exercise Physiology, a BSc in Sports Science and Biology and a Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE). I am a fellow of the Higher Education Authority and a trained Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) supervisor and PASS leader trainer. My research interests in exercise physiology are relatively diverse. I am probably best known for my research on the determination and enhancement of the maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max). My current research is focused on the methodological aspects of cardiopulmonary exercise testing and factors that explain exercise tolerance. I also have an interest in clinical exercise testing and prescription and I am an honorary exercise physiologist at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.
