A. Neto

André C. Neto was born in 1979. He received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in physics engineering from the Technical University of Lisbon, Lisbon, Portugal, in 2003, 2006, and 2011, respectively. His Ph.D. thesis concerned the real-time control infrastructure of the Joint European Torus (JET) vertical stabilization system He was a Researcher with the Instituto de Plasmas e Fusão Nuclear (IPFN), Lisbon, from 2003 and 2007, involved in the design, development, and deployment of distributed control and data acquisition software. From 2008 to 2012, he was an IPFN Secondee with the Plasma Operations Group, JET Tokamak, Oxfordshire, U.K., where he contributed to the Vertical Stabilization Upgrade project and where he was responsible for the design, development, and commissioning of the upgrades required to the plasma position and shape controller system in the context of the ITER-like beryllium wall. Since 2013, he has been as a Fusion Diagnostics Control and Instrumentation Technical Officer in Fusion for Energy. He has authored more than 50 journal and conference papers, and he was a Guest Editor of the Fusion Engineering and Design special issue titled Design and Implementation of Real-Time Systems for Magnetic Confined Fusion Devices. His current research interests include real-time operating systems and software, real-time networks, and the operations and control of nuclear fusion devices. Dr. Neto received the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society Outstanding Student Awards in 2009 with the work MARTe: A Multiplatform Real-Time Framework.
