As an orthopaedic surgeon my research focusses on the enhancement of quality of life of patients with knee and hip osteorthritis. Clinically we aim to reach this goal through the improvement of knee and hip arthroplasty. Using an anatomic approach we aim to tailor knee arthroplasty to the specific morphology and kinematics of each patient using standard and custom-made implant technologies. Hip arthroplasty via a minimally-invasive anterior approach to restore the horizontal and vertical offset has been shown to sucessfully reduce postoperative pain not only in the early phase of recovery. Scientifically, my lab research group foussed on regenerative medicine approaches using mesenchymal stem cells and various gene and protein factors to repair cartilage, ligament and tendon tissues.
