Benedetto Longo is an Associate Professor of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at Tor Vergata University of Rome, School of Medicine and Surgery. He completed his medical studies at “Sapienza” University of Rome, where he received the Board in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery with full marks and high academic honors, the 2nd Level University Master on Breast Reconstruction and the PhD in Plastic Surgery. In 2014, he did a Fellowship in Facial Aesthetic Surgery at The Boston Center affiliated with Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA Prof. Longo was the winner of the 2015 Hans Anderl Award and 2014 European Association of Plastic Surgeons (EURAPS) - American Association of Plastic Surgeons (AAPS) Fellowship Award He has attended in 2013 and 2014 as visiting scholar the Division of Plastic Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA, and in 2007 the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Sahlgrenska Hospital, University of Göteborg, Sweden. He did a 3-year Internship in Maxillofacial Surgery at “Sapienza” University of Rome and a 1-year Fellowship in Clinical and Experimental Reconstructive Microsurgery at Department of Bioscience, Tecnopolo Castel Romano, Rome. Prof. Longo is the author of 61 original scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals and 11 book chapters. He served as Secretary General the Research Council of European Association of Plastic Surgeons (EURAPS) whose he was the Local Host of the 3rd Annual EURAPS Research Council Meeting held on May, 28th-29th, 2014, in Lacco Ameno, Isle of Ischia. He further serves as Associate Editor of the Journal “Case Reports in Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery”, and as reviewer for several plastic surgery journals. He is an active member of EURAPS (European Association of Plastic Surgeons), SICPRE (Italian Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery) and SIM (Italian Society of Microsurgery). Prof. Longo’s research interests are primarily in the area of composite allotransplantation, perforator flaps, reconstructive microsurgery of the head and neck, breast, and limbs.
