Gu Can

Dr. Gu Can is Professor of Nursing, vice director of the Department of Clinical Nursing at Xiangya School of Nursing, Central South University. Dr. Gu received her undergraduate and master degree in Nursing from Central South University, and her Ph.D degree in Nursing fromThe Chinese University of Hong Kong. She completed a half-year Chia Health Fellowship at Yale University, and completed a one-year postdoctoral training at Yale School of Nursing. She has a broad background in nursing, with specific training and expertise in quantitative and qualitative research and integrative review on psychosocial aspects of oncology nursing and long-term care. Her research interests focuses on oncology nursing and long-term care. As PI or co-Investigator on several university-funded and national grants, she is interested in exploring the primary and secondary prevention practice of cervical cancer and breast cancer within Chinese cultural context. She had done some work on the influence of psycho-social dimensions on Chinese women’s cancer screening behavior and on promotion of cancer screening program among some under-served population including migrant women in the city and HIV positive women in China. She is also interested in psychosocial intervention for Chinese cancer survivors. One project on a mindfulness-based intervention for Chinese adult cancer survivors and another project on a family-based intervention for Chinese pediatric cancer families are still in progress and has got some preliminary data. These research works have produced several peer-reviewed publications from each project. From Sep 2020, she is acting as the Vice Dean of School of Nursing, Xinjiang Medical University.
