I'm interested in genetics and physiology of microbes that can grow and metabolize toxic metals, specifically arsenic. My current projects include investigating anaerobic arsenate reduction in Shewanella and arsenite oxidation in anoxygenic phototrophs isolated from hypersaline alkaline lakes like Mono Lake, Big Soda Lake and Searles Lake (Western US). I have a new project on manage aquifer recharge (MAR) where we are investigating the microbial ecology within the subsurface at MAR sites.
