My research explores the ways in which organizations and technology shape financial value. My award-winning study of a derivatives trading room on a Wall Street bank traced the roots of extraordinary returns to the use of space and internal organization. I have also examined how securities analysts help investors recognize the value of innovative companies, how the NYSE managed to effectively integrate algorithms in its trading floor, and how investors relied on shareholder engagement to make corporations more responsible. I am currently examining the role of non-profit organizations in promoting responsible investment. My ongoing book project with Princeton University Press explores the organization of derivatives traders on Wall Street, focusing on how managerial and employment policies.
