Bio
My team is broadly interested in the evolution of the metazoan ability to biomineralize. The relatively synchronous appearance of this trait in the fossil record coincides with an unprecedented expansion of morphological novelty, suggesting that the ability to make biominerals was one key factor that supported the Cambrian diversification. Our central research question could be put as "what degree of genetic conservation exists within the skeletogenic toolkits of extant metazoans?".
