I am research director in the Inserm laboratory « Alzheimer & Tauopathies » at UMR-S1172 (Lille Neuroscience & Cognition) in Lille (Head: Luc Buée). This is a world class research laboratory interested in the molecular, cellular, and physiological aspects of Tau biology and Tauopathies including Alzheimer’s Disease and rare pathologies (FTLD, NPC…). Our laboratory is part of the Excellence Laboratory (LabEx) DISTALZ and the LICEND excellence centre for neurodegenerative diseases. I have recognized international expertise on Tau, link to metabolism & neuroinflammation and the role of purinergic signaling in neurodegeneration with a focus on adenosine. We have published numerous papers describing the nature of memory and plasticity deficits promoted by the development of hippocampal Tau pathology in Alzheimer’s Disease. We have notably provided original data on the role of epigenomic dysregulations, neuroinflammation and Tau loss of function as convergent mechanisms favoring Tau-pathology induced cognitive impairments. In addition, we have demonstrated the contribution of different environmental factors to Tau-induced cognitive deficits and the mutual link between glucose homeostasis and Tau. Moreover, we have published different studies demonstrating how adenosine and adenosinergic A2A receptors contribute to the pathophysiological development of Huntington’s and Alzheimer’s Diseases using experimental, genetic and epidemiological approaches. We have been notably the first to demonstrate the ambiguous role of these receptors in Huntington pathophysiology but also the first to demonstrate the importance of the link between A2A receptors and Tau pathology upon cognitive abilities in Alzheimer’s Disease. Finally, within international NeuroTMULille laboratory and in collaboration with the College of Biomedical Engineering (Taipei Medical University), we also develop original projects regarding the protective potential of platelet biomaterials in neurodegeneration.
