David Poole is recognized internationally for his contributions to the fields of pulmonary gas exchange and skeletal muscle structure/function relationships. He has published over 350 peer reviewed papers and reviews in journals such as Circulation Research, Journal of Clinical Investigation, American Journal of Physiology, Journal of Physiology, Journal of Applied Physiology, FUNCTION and the British Medical Journal. Dr. Poole regularly presents his work before national and international scientific audiences. As Principal Investigator he has received over $6 million in funding with $31 million as Co-Investigator to examine the limitations to oxygen transport from lungs to mitochondria. This work has provided unique insights into healthy function and the pathophysiology associated with major disease conditions such as emphysema, diabetes, chronic heart failure and potentially cancer.
