I am an ecologist, and my lab generally focuses on the organic matter and nutrient dynamics of ecosystems. We investigate how these biogeochemical cycles are shaped by hydrology, phenotypic variation, ecological communities, and human activities. Much of our work occurs in wetlands and urban systems, although we study a variety of aquatic and terrestrial environments. We take an interdisciplinary approach to understanding complex systems, and our collaborators therefore include anthropologists, microbiologists, ecological genomicists, hydrogeologists, and engineers, among others.
