Dr. Fear’s research team is developing new approaches to imaging and sensing that incorporate microwaves. The work of her research team is characterized by a focus on practical implementation. In other words, innovations are required to work not just in theory but also in practice. The major accomplishments of her research group are:

Implementation and testing of prototype systems for medical microwave imaging that include adaptive positioning of sensors to enable reliable and repeatable data collection
development of custom sensors (ultra-wideband – UWB – antennas) for measuring reflections of microwave signals while positioned close to the breast
development of algorithms to form images with the microwave signals that indicate the presence and location of anomalies
completion of patient studies that demonstrate the potential for microwave imaging of the breast
