Research interest
The Complex Structure of Nuclear Medicine carries out diagnostic and therapeutic activities with unsealed radioisotopes, and research activities.
Nuclear Medicine uses methods that use radio drugs, i.e. substances marked with radioisotopes that are distributed in the body, generating images (for diagnostics) or irradiating pathological processes (radio metabolic therapy).
As part of the Complex Structure, diagnostic investigations are carried out with gamma-emitter radiopharmaceuticals (planar scintigraphies and SPET), and there are radiochemistry laboratories equipped for the production of marked radio molecules, which can be used for both diagnosui and cancer therapy. Radioisotopes are produced locally by accelerating machines (cyclotron 17MeV) or are acquired for external refueling.. The production of radiopharmaceuticals for use in Oncology is the subject of active clinical research, which also makes use of experimental animal models, which are studied with Micro PET.
