Eduardo Barrera was born in Vitoria, Spain, in 1968. He received the M.Sc. degree in telecommunication engineering and the Ph.D. degree from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain, in 1993 and 2008, respectively. He was an Invited Researcher with Imperial College London in 2017. He is currently a Full Professor with the Department of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science. He is the Leader of the structural health monitoring (SHM) research area with the Instrumentation and Applied Acoustics Research Group, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. He is the coauthor of more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals. His current research interest includes the development of electronic devices and data processing algorithms for damage detection and characterization related to structural health monitoring in aeronautics based on Lamb waves. Dr. Barrera won the Best Practical SHM Solution Award from Airbus at the European Workshop in SHM 2012. He received the Salvador de Madariaga Fund in 2017.
