Bio
Prof. Fottrell is Principal Investigator(PI) of the CARE Diabetes project, an interdisciplinary project seeking to understand contextual drivers and consequences of diabetesin urban Ghana, and design intervention strategies to prevent and control thedisease in this context. This work is closely linked to the GACD/MRC-funded DMagic and D:Clare projects - implementation science and cluster randomised trials to address diabetes in Bangladesh, which Ed also leads. Based on the interventions developed as part of the DMagic and D:Clare projects, Ed is currently running an intervention development programme to adapt community interventions to prevent childhood injuries in rural Bangladesh. Building on his work in diabetes, and in collaboration with partners in Bangladesh, Pakistan and the University of York, Ed is also a co-investigator of the DiaDem project – a trial of behavioural activation intervention to improve mental and physical health outcomes among people living with diabetes and depression. Ed is also co-PI of a study with the University of the Witwatersrand to investigate self-monitoring of health among individuals living with two or more chronic health conditions (multimorbidity) in rural South Africa.
