Francesco Montecchia

Francesco Montecchia was born in Macerata, Italy, in 1960. He received the B.S. degree in electronic engineering (“Electromagnetics”) from the University of Ancona, Ancona, Italy, in 1986, with an experimental thesis on “Microstrip-Antenna design for Hyperthermia treatments of superficial tumors,” and the specialist degree from the Postgraduate School of Health Physics of the University of Rome Tor Vergata, Rome, Italy, in 1991. From 1986 to 1992, he was employed with the Medical Physics Division, University of Rome Tor Vergata, where he carried out research concerning the design, development, and evaluation of RF/MW applicators and apparatuses for experimental and clinical hyperthermia treatments of superficial and subcutaneous tumors. Since 1992, he has been engaged with the Physics and Bioengineering Institute, University of Urbino, Urbino, Italy, the Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Divisions of Sapienza University of Rome, the Anesthesia Division of Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, and Medical Physics, Anesthesia Divisions, and Civil Engineering and Computer Science Engineering Department of the University of Rome Tor Vergata in the research, design, development, and optimization of advanced lung ventilation systems and innovative devices and algorithms for diagnostic and therapeutic evaluation of breathing assistance. Since 1990, he has been a Lecturer in Physics, Medical and Health Physics, Biophysics, and Biomedical Engineering Instrumentation. Since 2008, he has been the Head of the Medical Engineering Laboratory, University of Rome Tor Vergata.
