V.F. Lebedev was born on August 4, 1957 in Leningrad. In 1980, he graduated from Leningrad Institute of Mechanics (now, Baltic State Technical University "Voenmekh"). Since 1980 he was with the Laboratory of Laser Systems in the Leningrad Institute of Mechanics. His Ph.D. thesis was devoted to combustion- driven mixing CO2-gasdynamic laser (GDL) with formation of optically inverse medium in a system of parallel supersonic jets. He received the Ph.D. degree in 1984.
In 1989 he joined the Optical Laboratory in the General Physics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. His research interests lay in the field of physical properties of steady- state laser torch and materials synthesized by the laser distillation- deposition method.
From 1996 to 1998, in parallel with the main work involved in the investigation of metal coatings (including magnetosensitive coating) deposition on optical fibers by freezing technique. These works were carried out in a Bogatyrev V.A. research team in the Fiber Optics Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian Academy of Sciences (FORC RAS).
Since 1998 he was with the Fiber Optics Laboratory in FORC, in the position of Senior Research Fellow. His research interests was focused on spectral and lasing properties of nonlinear and laser crystals (Cr4+ and Cr3+-doped forsterite single crystals) and glasses.
During the 2006 - 2009's, he worked as a chief engineer in the company «Elements of Laser Systems- 94 " Ltd (Moscow), where he participated in the development and testing of diode-pumped solid-state lasers and in research on the practical application of the method of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy.
In 2009 he joined the Department of Laser Technics in Baltic State Technical University "Voenmekh", in the position of Associate Professor. His research interests were focused on high power phase-conjugate system based on loop laser cavities with self-pumped phase-conjugate mirrors and on remote Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy.
In 2014, within two weeks, he developed the experimental conditions and conducted experiments for the study of energy transfer between the laser beams of femtosecond duration. The experiments were performed in the Laboratory of Ultrafast Optics of Changchun Polytechnic University (China).
Since 2015 he joined the Department of Optoinformation Technologies and Materials in ITMO University, in position of Associate Professor.
Main research interests are focused on: laser oscillation on glass active laser media in near infrared spectral range (1-1.6 µm); research and development of algorithms for the analysis in the in situ / real-time the chemical composition of materials by means of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy.
Since 2006 Lebedev V.F. is individual membership of the Optical Society of America.
V.F. Lebedev is a co-author of more than 100 publications.
