Fabio Salbitano

PhD in Forest Ecology. Since 1st March 2023 he is associated professor at the University of Sassari, teaching forest ecology, silviculture, and tree urban systems. Formerly he has been assistant professor (1992 to 2002) and associate professor (2002 to February 2023) at the University of Florence teaching Urban and Landscape Ecology, Advances in Silviculture and Forestry, Urban Forestry. Since the middle of the 80s, he is involved in research on the topics of i. ecological history and landscape dynamics; ii. ancient woodlands facing new urbanisation phenomena; iii. participatory processes in urban woodland planning, design and management ; iii. strategic planning integrating urban forestry, urban agriculture and agroforestry; iv. Landscape ecology approach in environmental and social impact assessment; v. fog as a water resource for the development of forestry and agroforestry in perarid and desertic a zones of Latin America. Member of the Italian National Academy of Forest Science, delegate to 3 COST Actions and to the European Tropical Forest Research Network. He participated actively to FAO Urban Forestry programs, he is advisor for the Food for Cities program and coordinating WG7 (UPF) of FAO-SILVA MEDITERRANEA committee. From 2018 to 2022 he has been appointed as vice-chair of SILVA MEDITERRANEA. The specific research activities were carried out through a number of International and National projects, as well as research consultancy work for International and National Agencies (FAO, EU, IUFRO, ENI, SAIPEM, ENEL) as well as expertise and support for academic Institutions (University San Augustin, Peru; Chulalonkorn University Thailand, Escuela de CienciasForestales de la Universidad Mayor de San Simón, Bolivia) and NGOs (ICU). He is scientific coordinatore of the Foundation AlberItalia, part of the steering committee of the Italian Society of Silviculture and Forest Ecology, scientific coordinator of the M.Sc. in Landscape Design at the University of Florence.
