Nicole B. Flemming

Dr. Flemming joined the School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2021 as a Lecturer in Medical Education, and is currently based at the Sunshine Coast Health Institute. Dr. Flemming obtained a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at the University of the Sunshine Coast (2013), and subsequently a Bachelor of Science (Honours) at the University of Queensland (2014). Dr. Flemming completed her PhD at Mater Research - University of Queensland in 2021. Her doctoral thesis work was titled "Mitochondrial Dysfunction as a Pathological Mediator in Diabetic Kidney Disease" and investigated the role of structural and functional mitochondrial aberrations in diabetes and kidney disease across pre-clinical (cell-culture and murine models) and clinical research projects. Her current research interests are in diabetes, kidney disease, mitochondrial dysfunction, and healthy aging.
