Since 1998 he has been Head of the Microwaves Group at Universidad de Sevilla. His research work has been focused on the study of planar transmission lines, antennas and circuits for microwave frequencies using integral equation methods. The presence of (bi)anisotropic materials has been included in most of his works. Since 2002 he has been involved in metamaterials research, including the analytical modeling of periodic electromagnetic structures. He has been the PI of a several granted research projects on those topics and has co-authored more than 170 journal papers and book chapters, 5 patents of invention and more than 300 conference contributions. He has also been engaged in the TPC or in the organization of several local and international conferences, including the European Microwave Conference and the Spanish URSI. He is member of the Editorial Board of Int. J. of RF and Microwave CAD and Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Microwave and Wireless Technology. He has been a reviewer for more than 60 different journals in the fields of electrical engineering and physics. Since 2005 he has been a Fellow of the Electromagnetics Academy of the MIT and since 2010 he is an IEEE Fellow.
