Professor Yuri V. Gulyaev is a specialist in the fields of solid state physics, radiophysics, electronics and computer sciences. He is one of the founders of new scientific and technical directions: acoustoelectronics, acoustooptics, spin-wave electronics.Yuri V. Gulyaev suggested and worked out the idea of using surface acoustic waves (SAW) in electronics, predicted and studied new type of SAW known as Bleustein-Gulyaev waves, predicted and studied a new class of transport phenomena in solids connected with the drag of electrons by the acoustic waves, studied the diffraction of light on acoustic waves in anisotropic, conductive and active media, resonance and nonlinear acoustoelectronic and acoustooptic phenomena; acoustooptic phenomena in optical fibers, studied the interaction of spin waves with electromagnetic fields and electrons in layered structures ferromagnetic-semiconductors, etc. These and other works by Yuri V. Gulyaev and his scientific school are used in new technologies of information processing and telecommunications.
