Guy Berchem

Prof Berchem is a medical oncologist who graduated from the Université Libre de Bruxelles, 1990, trained at the Jules Bordet Cancer Center in Brussels, he was a researcher at the Lombardi Cancer Center, Georgetown University in the USA. In 2013 he presented his PhD on hypoxic stress regulating the immune response at the University of Paris Sud. Currently he is a hon. profesor of medical oncology at the University of Luxembourg. In 2003, he founded the Laboratory for Experimental Cancer Research at the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) where he is currently Associate Medical Director. At the clinical level, he is a medical oncologist at the Luxembourg Hospital Center. His clinical work focuses on lung cancer, melanoma, sarcoma and brain tumors. In the laboratory he mainly worked on the mechanisms of cell death in hematology, tumor immuno-evasion and personalized medicine. He has authored more than 100 articles in peer reviewed journals as well as more than 10 book chapters. He is President of the National Cancer Institute of Luxembourg and of MSF Luxembourg as well as delegate to the Committee of Advanced Therapies at the European Medicine's Agency in Amsterdam.
