Hitoki Yoneda

Hitoki Yoneda received the Ph.D. degree in engineering from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan, in 1988. He is currently a Professor and the Director of the Institute for Laser Science with the University of Electro-Communications (UEC), Chofu, Japan. In 1988, he joined the Institute for Laser Science as a Research Associate and he became an Associate Professor in 1998. Since 2006, he has been a Professor with UEC. He was a Visiting Scientist in the Department of Physics, University of California, Berkeley, CA, USA, in 1995. He is a Guest Professor with Osaka University, Osaka, Japan, and a Guest Scientist with the X-ray Free Electron Laser Division, RIKEN Spring-8, Harima, Japan. He was a Program Officer of applied physics at the Research Center for Science Systems, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (2009–2012). He is a Science Adviser for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology in Japan (2014∼). His research is in the fields of laser science, plasma physics, high energy density science, high precision optics, and x-ray quantum optics. In particular, he has interest in high-power laser development and applications, high-intensity laser interaction, nonlinear optical phenomena in hard X-ray region, and laser-based diagnostics. Dr. Yoneda received the Nice-Step-Scientist Prize from MEXT in 2008, and the Contribution Award from the Optical Society of Japan in 2005 and from the Japanese Society of Plasma Science and Nuclear Fusion Research in 2007.
