Professor Jane Hocking is an epidemiologist and implementation researcher and whose research interests include the epidemiology and control of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), sexual health and the implementation and evaluation of primary care interventions. She holds an NHMRC Senior Research Fellowship and is the head of the Sexual Health Unit at the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health, University of Melbourne.

Jane has considerable expertise in the design and evaluation of complex interventions in primary care. She generated Australia’s first population-based chlamydia prevalence and incidence estimates and conducted the first cluster randomised controlled trial of a complex chlamydia testing intervention in general practice. Her current research program includes developing and implementing a new model of care for STI management in general practice, the sexual health needs of older adults, evaluating the effectiveness of a rebate payment for an adolescent health check in general practice, conducting treatment trials to evaluate the efficacy of antibiotics for STIs and measuring the pharmacokinetics of antibiotics for oropharyngeal STIs.
