Barrett Ian P

Ian Barrett received the PhD degree in human genetics with the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute between 1999–2003, using experimental and computational approaches to study the human X chromosome. He started his career as a molecular biologist in the pre-genome era, in 1995, working on drug discovery for respiratory and inflammation diseases with Astra. Subsequently he transitioned to computational research full time, where he worked in the oncology bioinformatics group with AstraZeneca until 2011, when he moved to his current department and is now a senior director with the Data Sciences and Quantitative Biology Department. In this role, he has led teams spanning a range of computational disciplines, to further drug discovery efforts across multiple disease areas.
