Ingo Völksch

Ingo Völksch received the B.S. degree in geology from the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena, Jena, Germany, the M.S. degree in earth sciences with a special focus on glaciology from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zürich, Zürich, Switzerland, in 2004, with his thesis investigating small-scale spatial variations of mountain permafrost properties, and the Ph.D. degree in physics from the University of Bern, Bern, Switzerland, in 2011. In 2005, he gained further experience in permafrost modeling and snow hydrology, working as a Research Assistant with the Swiss Federal Institute of Snow and Avalanche Research (SLF), Davos, Switzerland. He then turned his focus toward passive microwave radiometry and worked on his Ph.D. thesis, investigating the L-band signatures of soils with periodic patterns and relief, from 2007 to 2010 at the WSL Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research, Birmensdorf, Switzerland. He is currently with Gamma Remote Sensing AG, Gümligen, Switzerland, working on a project to consolidate the achievements of ground-based microwave radiometer measurements with the ETH L-band Radiometer II radiometers currently deployed at different locations throughout Europe for Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity calibration/validation purposes.
