Ivan Erill is a full professor at the Department of Biological Sciences of the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). His lab works on metagenomics, comparative genomics and theoretical approaches to understand the co-evolution of bacterial transcription factors, their binding sites and resulting transcriptional networks, with a focus on how bacterial transcriptional networks, such as stress responses, evolve to coordinate important aspects of bacterial life like virulence and antibiotic resistance.
