Bio
Dr John ALLEN is Assistant Professor of Biostatistics at the Duke-NUS Medical School, and Head, Educational Core, Centre for Quantitative Medicine in the Office of Research. He holds Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Statistics from Brigham Young University at Provo, Utah USA and a PhD in Biometry from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Texas. Prior to joining Duke-NUS in 2009, he was employed in the United States for 35+ years by medical device and pharmaceutical companies engaged in clinical research. As a Biostatistician, Manager and Director of Biostatistical/Data Management units he supported product regulatory submissions to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
At Duke-NUS, Dr. Allen provides collaborative Biostatistical support to SingHealth researchers spanning areas including Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Rheumatology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, Neurology and Cancer resulting in 240 publications in these and other areas. During his tenure at Duke-NUS, he has been a Collaborator or Co-Investigator on many funded grants, and Co-Principal Investigator of a Joint Research Project between NUS and SERI: Identification of Genetic biomarkers for disease progression in Angle Closure.
As Head, Educational Core, Centre for Quantitative Medicine (CQM), Dr. Allen participated in developing the MS3 Research Methods and Analysis (RMA) curriculum module. He has statistical oversight responsibility for RMA as well as Biostatistical support provided to third-year medical students engaged in fulfilling their Scholarly Research requirement. He serves on the Duke-NUS Research and Scholarship Committee (RSC), is a Biostatistical mentor for the Duke-NUS Centre for Clinician-Scientist Development (CCSD), and an Academic Medicine Education Institute (AMEI) Research Grant Biostatistical mentor.
Awards include Outstanding Educator Award, Duke-NUS; Duke-NUS/AMEI Golden Apple Award for innovative teaching; and a SingHealth Duke-NUS Research 2nd Place Team Award.
When not in Singapore—where he loves be, Dr Allen resides is in Star, Idaho USA. He is the father of six daughters and one son, and grandfather to 24 grandchildren.
