James H. Shirley

Jim Shirley is a planetary scientist whose research interests include the icy satellites of the outer solar system. At Pasadena's Jet Propulsion Laboratory since 1993, he has worked in Mission Operations during the Galileo Project and in Advanced Projects. Current work focuses on studies aimed at accomplishing a future lander mission to Jupiter's icy moon Europa. Past projects include a role as principal editor for the well received Encyclopedia of Planetary Sciences, published in 1997 by Chapman & Hall. Jim holds a bachelor's degree from the University of California at Berkeley and a masters in physics and geosciences from California State University Northridge.
