jaroslav straus

Jaroslav Straus received the RNDr. degree from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University in Prague, Prague, Czech Republic, in 1978, where he received the Ph.D. degree from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics. From 1978 to 1981, he was with the Institute of Solid State Physics, Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, where he was interested in phase transformation of alloys. From 1981 to 2003, he developed cryosurgery devices for use in medicine: from 1981 to 1985 at the Research Institute of Electrical Engineering, Prague, from 1986 to 1989 at Concern Enterprise Chirana Brno, Brno, Czech Republic, from 1989 to 1997 at SMT Ltd., Prague, where he was the Head of the Development Department, from 1997 to 2003 at SMT Cryo Ltd., Prague, where he was the Managing Director. Since 2003, he has been with the Institute of Plasma Physics, Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague, where he developed a soft X-ray laser for potential use in nanostructuring. He is currently interested in a shock wave generation by underwater discharges.
