He has over 25 years of R&D experience in biological data mining, systems biology, and AI in medicine, with over 200 peer-reviewed publications. He was the past President the Midsouth Computational Biology and Bioinformatics Society and serves on the board of directors of Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Special Interest Group on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics (ACM-SIGBIO). He is an elected fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI), the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), and American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), and a distinguished member of ACM. He also serves on the editorial boards of BMC Bioinformatics, Journal of American Medical Informatics Association (JAMIA), and Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and Big Data. In the past twenty years, he has participated in nearly $100M research projects as co-investigators or principle investigators, in projects ranging from biocomputing, data mining, to precision medicine and translational informatics. In 2019, he was recognized by Deep Knowledge Analytics as one of the “Top 100 AI Leaders in Drug Discovery and Healthcare” for his entrepreneurial activities in systems biology software. In 2023, he was awarded the Pioneer Award by the Chinese Association of Science and Technology USA Chapter (CAST-USA) for his contributions in AI in drug discovery leadership in academic institutions.
