With over 20 years experience, he is an internationally recognised clinician-researcher radiation oncologist and a leading authority in head and neck and dermato-oncology.

Professor Porceddu has been investigating methods to reduce the morbidity of treatment, improve cure rates and quality of life for cancer patients. He runs an active head and neck and skin cancer research program and led Australia’s first NHMRC-supported randomised phase III trial on advanced head and neck skin cancer. In line with his research goals, he has been examining the integration of radiation therapy and new technologies in the management of head and neck cancer and skin cancer.

He has had an influential role in cancer education and advocacy through his numerous roles in academic and professional organisations and served as President of the Trans Tasman Radiation Oncology Group and the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia, and been a member of the Board of Directors for the Cancer Council of Australia.

Professor Porceddu has published over 250 peer-review papers, book chapters and abstracts and has been awarded several national and international competitive grants.
