Jeff Jones, Commander USNR, is a flight surgeon in the Medical Operations Branch of the Space Medicine and Health Care Systems Division of the Space and Life Sciences Directorate at NASA/JSC. He is board certified in both Urologic Surgery and Aerospace Medicine, and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Preventive Medicine. He is also an associate professor at the Baylor College of Medicine. He has been a crew surgeon, deputy crew surgeon or flight controller on multiple space shuttle, and space station missions, including the lead crew surgeon for Expedition 5. He served as the Lead for International Space Station Medical Operations for the first five expeditions. He has authored numerous papers and book chapters on the diagnosis and treatment of calculi, cancer, and aviation and space medicine conditions; and has several research projects underway to reduce astronaut health risk while in space. His special interest is in facilitating the exploration of the solar system, including the reduction of life science uncertainties for a human mission to Mars.
