Bio
Jeffrey W. Beeman received the B.S. degree from SyracuseUniversity,
Syracuse, NY, USA, in 1981.
He is currently a Materials Scientist/Engineer with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, CA, USA.
Hejoined the Electronic Materials Research Team headed by Prof. E. Haller (University of California at Berkeley
andLawrence Berkeley National Laboratory) in 1984. From 1984 to 2008, he focused primarily on germanium-based
cryogenicdetectors of all kinds, ultimately fabricating devices that have flown on the Spitzer, Planck, and Herschel
spacetelescopes. Additional work during this time included the fabrication, modification, and characterization of
variouscompound semiconductors. His current research interests include superconductive materials, nanoparticle formation
andcharacterization, double beta decay detection, “Dark Matter” detection, X-ray microcalorimetry, ion
beamsynthesis and modification of materials, high-efficiency solar cell production, and solar water splitting.
