I am a pediatric hematologist and Medical Director of Translational Research in the Department of Hematology at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I have an active clinical research program on pathophysiology and genetics of sickle cell disease, focusing on development of clinical trials to evaluate the safety, efficacy and optimization of therapeutic agents. I serve as the principal investigator and program director (PI/PD) for the NIH-funded multicenter pilot trial evaluating optimal doses of hydroxyurea in very young children with sickle cell disease (HUGKISS; R341HL127162), and I am co-PI for the Sickle Cell Clinical Research and Intervention Program (SCCRIP; NCT00890396)s.
