Jian Wu Sun

Jianwu Sun now holds a permanent position as Associate Professor at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM), Linköping University (LiU), Sweden. He is the Head of Sublimation Materials Unit and the Deputy Head of Semiconductor Materials Division. From 2019 to 2020, he was the Head of Semiconductor Materials Division in IFM, LiU. He has 20 years research experience in growth of inorganic thin film materials (ZnO, GaN, Ge, SiGe, SiC and graphene) by Molecular-beam epitaxy (MBE), chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and physical vapor transport (PVT, also called sublimation) etc. in both academia and nanoelectronics industry. His current research focuses on the growth of inorganic thin film and energy materials including SiC, graphene, and metal oxides for photoelectrochemical hydrogen production and CO2 conversion via solar-driven water splitting. He received the PhD degree in 2008 from Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. From 2008 to 2009, he worked as an Assistant Professor in Xiamen University, China. From 2009 to 2013, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in CNRS, Montpellier University II, France and Linköping University, Sweden, respectively. From 2013 to 2014, he worked as Senior Researcher (Permanent position) in the world-leading nanoelectronics research institute IMEC, Belgium, where he mainly worked on development of the CMOS FinFETs logic chips. During working in IMEC, he as the first inventor obtained one granted patent on the fabrication of CMOS FinFETs beyond 7 nm node technology, which has been granted by both European Patent Office (Grant number: EP3018715A1) and United States Patent and Trademark Office (Grant Number: US9640411B2). Since 2014, he has established his own research group at IFM, LiU on growth of inorganic thin films and energy materials including silicon carbide, graphene, and metal oxides for photoelectrochemical hydrogen production and CO2 conversion via solar-driven water splitting. He has established a broad international collaboration network with researchers from Japan, France, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Egypt, China, etc. Jianwu Sun is serving as the Executive Editorial Board Member of the IOP journal Nano Express (Institute of Physics).
