Joaquim Tinoco

Joaquim Tinoco (Habilitation, PhD) is Researcher at the Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering (ISISE) as well as at the ALGORITMI R&D centre, with interests in the fields of: Geotechnical Engineering: Soft Soils, Soil Improvement, Slopes Stability; and Artificial Intelligence (AI): Neural Networks; Evolutionary Algorithms and AI Applications. He is co-author of more than 30 indexed (e.g. ISI, Scopus) publications in international peer reviewed journals (e.g. Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, Computers and Geotechnics, International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences) and conferences (e.g. ECSMGE, TRA, EPIA). He has a total of 278 Google Scholar citations (h-index of 9) and 148 Scopus citations (h-index of 6). Currently he is involved in the organization of the 3rd International Conference on Information Technologies in Geo-Engineering (3rd ICITG 2019) as member of the organizing committee, which will be held in Guimarães, 2019. In 2016 he integrated the organizing committee of the 3rd International Conference on Transportation Geotechnics (3rd ICTG 2016), which took place in Guimarães, 2016. Besides that, in the framework of the 3rd ICTG 2016, he led the creation of the Young Transportations Geotechnics Engineers (YTGE) network, and was the Chairman of the 1st meeting of the Young Transportations Geotechnics Engineers. He has been a regular reviewer of ISI JCR journals such as: Neural Processing Letters, Soils and Foundations, Engineering Structures, Neural Computing & Applications, Engineering Geology and Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering.
