John D. Simeral received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University, Stanford, CA, in 1985, the M.S. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1989, and the Ph.D. degree in neuroscience from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Winston-Salem, NC, as a Predoctoral Ruth L. Kirschstein Fellow in 2003. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow with Dr. J. Donoghue in the Department of Neuroscience, Brown University, Providence, RI. He is currently an Assistant Professor (Research) in the School of Engineering, Brown University, and a Research Biomedical Engineer in the Department of Veterans Affairs Rehabilitation Research and Development Service, Providence VA Medical Center, Providence. His research focuses on extending our understanding of the neural basis of movement and developing neural prosthetic systems with the potential to enhance communication and independence for individuals with severe motor disability.
