个人简介
Karl-Heinz Wagner is nutritionist and received his PhD 1999 at University of Vienna focusing on lipid oxidation pathways, the evaluation of various bioactive substances and their antioxidative potential. During his Post Doc period, in Vienna and Uppsala (Sweden) he focused on food bioactivity studies and also explored potential anti-genotoxic effects of food compounds. Since 2011 he is Full Prof. at University of Vienna, Faculty of Life Sciences and he is co-leading the faculty focus “Biomolecules for a Healthy Lifespan” and leading the Emerging Field “Oxidative Stress and DNA Stability”. The latter field is now the main research focus which is explored in several international human intervention studies trying to predict the risk of chronic diseases such as cancer and CVD on systemic, cellular and molecular level. Since 2010 he is Adjunct Professor at Griffith University in Australia and in this year he also received the leadership of the University Research Platform “Active Ageing”, which is still successfully ongoing. His research is mainly biomarker driven and following a translational approach from cell to organism. With the research platform he has performed several national and international intervention studies in the elderly population focusing thereby on the diet, specific nutrients and physical activity. One research field in the biomedical area he is exploring sine one decade is bilirubin metabolism and its associations to chronic diseases. Very recently, he has started to link bilirubin metabolism to large epidemiological consortia in order to explore this field with new epidemiological tools such as Mendelian randomization. He is working in an international environment with collaboration partners across all continents. He is Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences and Dean-elect, President of the Austrian Nutrition Society and serves in the Austrian Nutrition Commission and the Scientific advisory board of the German Nutrition Society.
Dr. Wagner has published more than 230 papers in ISI journals and is author of more than 25 book chapter. He is in the editorial board of various reviewers and also served as guest editor for numerous special issues in peer-reviewed scientific journals and edited 2 books.
