I am an epidemiologist and gerontologist whose research aims to reduce risk of disability and injury as well as improve pain management among older adults. Over the last 15 years, I have been fortunate to collaborate with colleagues on research investigating predictors and outcomes related to physical functioning, such as pain, multimorbidity, and falls. This work has involved the coordination, management, and extensive analysis and meta-analysis of data from multiple cohort studies and nationally representative health surveys. More recently, I have been conducting intervention studies for painful musculoskeletal conditions such as knee osteoarthritis (OA). Most of these trials are funded by the CDC and NIH and evaluate exercise and active coping skills training to reduce pain and improve physical functioning. At the Harborview Injury Prevention & Research Center, I am privileged to work with talented faculty and staff who conduct research, train scientists, and implement programs to achieve injury-related health equity across the lifespan.
