Received a B.S in Cellular and Molecular Biology from Western Washington University in 2005. Received Ph.D in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2011. Currently in Employed at the University of Texas at San Antonio as a Postdoctorial Fellow. In addition to the duties required to perform my research (protein purification, HPLC, FPLC, anaerobic handing of samples, and molecular dynamics simulations on proteins), I also perform duties related to issuing purchase orders, ordering general lab supplies, and acting as lab safety officer. My research interests include protein engineering. I have experience purifying, biochemically characterizing, and running molecular dynamics simulations of heme iron and non-heme iron containing metalloproteins. I am interested in further developing my protein engineering skills and would be most interested in designing proteins for practical applications in general with particular interest in the areas of medicine and/or forensic science.
