Bio
Since 2015 he has led the funding proposal, design, and renovation of a state-of-the art explosive facility to consolidate HE Crystal Lab operations and accelerate associated workflows. He has championed major initiatives in HE modernization, including high performance, reduced-sensitivity formulation development and advanced manufacturing. He founded and/or reinvigorated these ideas at LANL starting in 2014 and demonstrated viability as the principal investigator in weapons projects and a series of five Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) projects, which are awarded across the ~14,000 employee laboratory in a highly competitive process. Successfully proposing and leading five LDRD projects in seven years is a very rare achievement at LANL. He also developed and applied in situ X-ray diffraction and imaging in the investigation of explosives, performing the first shock loading experiments on explosives at the Advanced Photon Source (APS) and the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS). Dr. Ramos is dedicated to the use of these lattice and mesoscale measurements to quantify fundamental structure-property relationships, inform theory, and enable high fidelity simulations for predicting and optimizing mechanical properties, shock sensitivity, and manufacturing of explosives.
