Loukas Astrakas received the Bachelor's degree in physics from the University of Athens, Athens, Greece, in 1989, and the Ph.D. degree from the National Technical University of Athens, Athens, in 1999. From 1999 to 2004, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, where he conducted research on brain diseases and burn trauma using magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy. During 2006–2008, he worked as a Marie Curie Fellow at the University of Ioannina, Janina, Greece. Since 2009, he has been an Instructor in Medical Physics at the University of Ioannina. His current research interest includes biomedical applications of magnetic resonance.
