Leonid M. Lytvynenko

Leonid M. Lytvynenko (M’95–SM’99) was born in Kharkiv, Ukraine, in 1938. He received the combined B.S. and M.S. degrees in radiophysics and electronics in 1959, the Ph.D. degree in 1965, and graduated from the V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Kharkiv. From 1966 to 1985, he was with the Institute of Radiophysics and Electronics, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (IRE NASU), Kharkiv. He has been a Professor of radiophysics since 1977. In 1985, he founded the Institute of Radio Astronomy of NASU and served as its Director until 2017. He is currently the Honorary Director of the Radio Astronomy Institute of NASU. His areas of research are in the theory of waves scattering and propagation, antennas systems and engineering, microwave sources, and radio astronomy. He is the Vice-Chairman of the Ukrainian National URSI Committee, a member of the European Astronomy Society, and a member of the International Astronomy Society. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Radio Physics and Radio Astronomy.
