Lisbeth Evered is currently Associate Professor of Neuroscience in Anesthesiology at Weill Cornell Medicine, New York, Scientific Head of Research in the Department of Anaesthesia and acute pain medicine, St. Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and Associate Professor (Honorary) University of Melbourne. Lisbeth holds a BSc (Monash University) and MBiostat (2006, University of Melbourne). Her PhD (2013, University of Melbourne) investigated the functional impact of postoperative cognitive decline and dementia. Lisbeth is a founding member of the Centre for Anaesthesia and Cognitive Function at St. Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. In 2011 she founded the Perioperative Cognition Professional Interest Area (PIA) of the Alzheimer’s Association (US) International Society to Advance Alzheimer’s Research and Treatment (ISTAART) which now has more than 160 members worldwide. Lisbeth is Chair of the International multi-disciplinary nomenclature consensus working group of more than 40 world experts in anaesthesia, neurology, psychiatry, gerontology, and neuropsychiatry to define perioperative cognitive disorders in alignment with other neurodegenerative diseases of the elderly, published 2018 and now working on research guidelines. Lisbeth has been invited to speak at more than 100 international and national conferences across a variety of medical disciplines and is the holder of grants totalling more than $7m. Lisbeth has contributed substantially to the body of literature associated with perioperative cognitive disorders, and her work has provided a quantitative and longitudinal characterisation of the risks of cognitive decline and neurodegenerative disease post-surgery and anaesthesia. This work has changed, and continues to move, the direction of perioperative cognitive research. Lisbeth is Associate Editor of the British Journal of Anaesthesia and Senior Editor for Anesthesia and Analgesia. She is a peer-reviewer of many international journals including New England Journal of Medicine and Neurology. She is an experienced supervisor of RHD students, Honours students and undergraduate research students, as well as experienced in undergraduate and graduate teaching in neuroscience and statistics. Lisbeth has engaged world experts, initiating and maintaining many ongoing collaborations with local, national and international researchers establishing a broad scope of multi-disciplinary research projects and collaborations with key stakeholders.
