Bio
Dr Lin Liu has been an academic in the School of IT & Mathematical Sciences since 2002. Before joining UniSA, she was a lecturer in Xidian University, Xi’an, China. She is a proud UniSA graduate (in 2006) with a PhD in Computer Systems Engineering.
Lin has taught a broad range of courses in computer science. Currently she is teaching a first year computer networking course and a postgraduate data science course. Lin has been supervising PhD students in data mining and bioinformatics. She also supervised PhD students network security analysis in the past.
Lin’s current research is focused on data mining, causal inference and their applications. She is a chief investigator of several projects funded by Australian Research Council and the Data to Decisions Cooperative Research Centre. Lin works closely with biologists to develop and apply data mining and causal inference methods to solve real world biological problems. She is also interested in educational data mining to support teaching and student learning.
Lin has published 1 book and over 80 refereed papers, with many of them published in top tier journals and conferences. She has served as a program chair of Australasian Data Mining Conferences, a program chair of KDD Causal Discovery Workshops, a PC member of premier data mining and machine learning conferences such as KDD, AAAI and IJCAI, and a reviewer of several top quality journals in data mining and bioinformatics.
