Marco E. Cabrera

Marco E. Cabrera received the Lic.es Sci. degree in physics from the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala in 1978 and his Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering from CWRU, Cleveland, Ohio, in 1995, followed by postdoctoral studies in chemistry. He was an associate professor of pediatrics and lectures physiology in the Departments of Biomedical Engineering and Physiology and Biophysics. He was a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and a member of the American Physiological Society, the Biomedical Engineering Society, and the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. His research focused on investigating the regulation of energy metabolism in cardiac and skeletal muscle during conditions that challenge homeostasis (e.g., exercise) and throughout the course of adaptations to a chronic stress (e.g., physical inactivity or training), specifically in adolescents and astronauts. His research employed a system-biology approach, combining dynamic experimental measurements and computational models of the system investigated. He was on the editorial board of the Journal of Biological Chemistry, and he was the assistant editor of the review journal Exercise and Sports Sciences Reviews.
