Marie-Belle El Mdawar

I completed my PhD at the University of Strasbourg studying the cellular and molecular mechanisms implicated in the development of Transfusion-Related Acute Lung Injury (TRALI). I joined the Lungs for Living Research Centre at UCL Respiratory in 2019 to gain expertise in epithelial stem cell biology of the human lungs. My work focuses on delineating the role of human basal epithelial cells in upper airways homeostasis and regeneration after injury. For this purpose, I use 2D and 3D organoids cell culture protocols to expand and differentiate these cells under different conditions. I am the co-chair of the Early Career Research Network at the Division of Medicine and a member of the Athena SWAN self-assessment team. I am also a personal tutor at UCL, and a Mental Health First Aider.
